Ninety large new bollards have been made and installed by Citycare Property in Mission Bay to protect the Selwyn Reserve for Aucklanders to enjoy.
It’s a huge effort for the Minor Capital Works team to manoeuvre each 64-kilogramme wooden bollard into position to replace the boulders which used to surround the reserve.
The project took a month to complete for Auckland Council and the bollards will prevent any vehicles from driving onto the reserve, Project Manager Graham Forrester says.
Beautifying public spaces
The specialist Citycare Property carpenters made the 300mm by 300mm bollards in the depot from hardwood, then transported and installed them during January.
Thankfully, the team was shaded from the heat by the 28 beautiful pohutukawa trees in the Mission Bay Reserve, Graham says.
Within the reserve, the team also laid new concrete to widen the existing pads underneath the picnic sets to make it easier for visitors to sit around the tables.
These enhancements to the Mission Bay Reserve look fantastic and protect this popular waterfront reserve for everyone.
