Streetscape reconstruction experts

Residential streets age just like residents and sometimes a major facelift or reconstruction is required.

There’s bumps and cracks in the road surface and paths, out-of-date kerb and channel and overgrown trees.

Residential areas can be rejuvenated with a new modern look and, like any radical change of appearance or cosmetic surgery, an experienced team is required to do the work.

That’s where the expertise of Citycare Property comes in on the streets of Christchurch.

Presently Warden Street in Richmond is receiving a full streetscape reconstruction.

All the old kerb and channels, footpaths and drainage systems are being replaced and new footpaths and vehicle crossings are being created.

Extensive landscaping including lawns and trees is a key part of the rejuvenation and road marking and signage are being updated.

The capital works are all part of how the Christchurch City Council looks after and upgrades its assets, Citycare Property Senior Project Manager Barry Templeton says.

Work began at Warden Street in January and everything is expected to be finished in December.

Progress has been excellent despite interruptions for the COVID-19 lockdown.

Barry reports, “The local residents have been very good about the disruption and we have worked in well with them to minimise any major disturbance.”

At least six Citycare Property teams are involved in the Warden Street project including a drainage crew, two construction teams, surfacing teams and a traffic management team. A horticulture team has managed landscaping and tree planting on grass berms.
