Proud Coasters Lead Rebuild of Moana Fire Station
The Citycare Property team on the West Coast has been making significant strides with their project for Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ), which involves rebuilding the Moana Fire Station - an essential project for the local community.
Moana is a small settlement near Lake Brunner with around 70 permanent residents and many holiday homes. With the main Greymouth Fire Station 30 minutes away, this rebuild ensures vital emergency services remain accessible locally.
The rebuild includes partial demolition, upgrading a 1970s structure, and creating a new appliance bay. The site also hosts the Coast Guard, which patrols the popular Lake Brunner area during summer.
Managing the project presents unique challenges, such as Moana’s remote location and unpredictable weather. Limited mobile coverage and the site being close to a school form part of these challenges, making safety and clear communication our highest priority.
A key focus for Citycare Property is our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and forging partnerships with key local contractors. Through this project, services such as civil, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and joinery – accounting for over 50% of the project’s value – remain within the West Coast.
This rebuild isn’t just about infrastructure for Citycare Property; it’s a chance to strengthen community resilience. Our team is excited to contribute to the region and make this milestone project a success.
