Citycare Property Completes 100th Kāinga Ora Home
There are celebrations at Citycare Property as our Wellington team completes their 100th newly refurbished Kāinga Ora home as part of the social housing retrofit programme.
Citycare Property has been managing the contract in Wellington for the past two years and it’s been great to undertake the work required and hand back warm, dry, well-ventilated homes with all the bells and whistles that make for comfortable living.
Work varies on each property but can include replacement of windows, weatherboards, doors and ranch sliders as well as installation of new electrical and plumbing work. Each home also receives a new kitchen and bathroom as well as new carpet and a coat of paint. Properties are located across the Wellington region, as far north as Porirua and including inner city suburbs like Newtown and Ngaio.
Senior Project Manager Derek Bradley says that one of the things that has made this project so fulfilling, and quite unique, has been the amazing group of local sub-contractors who have been part of the two year journey.
“We use local subbies for the work and have an amazing group of builders, plumbers, electricians, painters and decorators who have grown their skill base alongside the contract. We literally could not have completed the work without them. They all know and understand our expectations and they all deliver.
At the heart of this network has been the commitment to onsite Health and Safety and onsite quality. Everyone gives 100% to achieving these shared outcomes alongside on time delivery. Citycare Property has 60 days from receipt of the property to complete the project work, so there's no time for mucking round.
“It’s been really rewarding to not only deliver great housing stock back to Kāinga Ora but also to build capability and capacity among the local team of around 100 sub-contractors.”
The project is worth in excess of $25M and has been largely driven by Derek and Project Manager Frances Pearson.
The team received the best feedback possible when Citycare Property was asked to tender for the Kāinga Ora Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast contract where we were successful due to great processes and previous performance in the Wellington region.
A huge congratulations is due to the great team who have driven this project hard to ensure excellence in delivery.
