Citycare Property Awarded Department of Conservation Facilities Management Contract
Citycare Property has been awarded the contract to deliver facilities management (FM) services for the Department of Conservation (DOC), supporting DOC’s first-generation outsourced FM model. This significant partnership reflects DOC’s move toward a centralised FM approach designed to strengthen consistency, efficiency, and service quality across its national portfolio. Citycare Property is pleased to strengthen its collaboration with DOC, building on six years of successful project delivery.
DOC manages assets across Aotearoa New Zealand in some of the country’s most remote, iconic, and environmentally sensitive locations. These assets range from visitor centres and regional offices to ranger stations and operational facilities across the motu, including the Chatham Islands, Hauraki Gulf, and Stewart Island/Rakiura. Many of these sites require strict biodiversity protections, making FM a logistically complex undertaking requiring a high degree of coordination.
Under the new contract, Citycare Property will provide reactive and planned preventative maintenance, Building Warrant of Fitness (BWOF) services, and minor project works. Delivery will be supported by Citycare Property’s extensive network of regional and local subcontractors, complemented by the company’s nationwide trades workforce and project team. This model preserves vital local knowledge and community connections while leveraging Citycare Property’s established supply chain to ensure value for money and confidence that all health and safety, quality, and biosecurity standards will be met.
Donna Spargo, Head of Facilities Management at Citycare Property, says:
“Our vision is for DOC’s assets to shift from reactive to planned maintenance, enabling us to deliver efficiencies and more cost-effective outcomes without compromising the comfort and safety of those enjoying DOC facilities.”
Citycare Property’s proprietary integrated facilities management platform, Event Manager, will underpin the partnership by providing enhanced functionality, visibility, and streamlined end to end FM service delivery.
Jay Eden, Asset Systems Manager at the Department of Conservation, says: “Our partnership with Citycare supports DOC’s move from reactive maintenance to a more planned, nationally consistent facilities management model, helping our people focus on delivering conservation outcomes across the motu.”
The contract includes the management of visitor centres located in some of our most treasured destinations, such as Aoraki/Mt Cook and Tongariro National Park. DOC facilities play an important role in welcoming manuhiri (visitors), making their upkeep essential.
Citycare Property acknowledges the significance of caring for assets that represent the essence of Aotearoa. The partnership is grounded in the principles of manaakitanga (hospitality) and kaitiakitanga (guardianship), ensuring that facilities are maintained with respect, care, and a deep sense of responsibility to the environment and communities they serve.
